What is ORLounge ?

ORLounge is a Virtual Operating Room app that aims at creating a real-time communication room for medical professionals. The solution by Green Apex Technolabs comes with a cloud platform which works as a common arena for Doctors and Nurses to discuss, collaborate, and gain knowledge via a virtual operating room.


ORLounge is the community site meant solely for people working in the Operating Rooms. The community offers an intuitive way for Doctors and Nurses to create their own lounge sites, collaborate, discuss, and learn from each other. Moreover, it provides a secure verification process so that privacy and security are never compromised. Green Apex offered them a cloud solution which saved them the hustle of maintaining a software.

The App has two different interfaces: one for end users and another for admins. The website is created to cater to different needs of the target end users. In short, this real-time Chat Room App has made it easy for medical professionals to connect and discuss work in the most innovative way possible.

Client Requirement

The client’s aim was to make the day to day activities of doctors and nurses simple and dynamic. Their initial vision was to build a desktop software to achieve the same. However, the days of desktop software are long gone. Hence, Green Apex helped them enhance the vision and offered a cloud solution which comprised the below requirements:

  • Separate Register/ login page for user and admins
  • Provision to select Hospital names from a list
  • Mobile pin verification (automatic)
  • Notification and alerts
  • Hospital badge verification (manual)
  • Real-time messaging
  • Virtual Operating Room creation

Features We Added

Like we already mentioned, client’s demand was to have 2 different interfaces for admins and users. Hence, we analysed the high-level requirements further and broke them down into 2 categories. We also offered some extra features only to enhance the experience further based on our in-house experts’ expertise. Let’s have a thorough look at how we achieved this.

For Doctors, Nurses, OR managers:
  • Signup with email, full name, and password
  • Ability to request the addition of new hospitals

Create Operating Rooms

When the client told us their requirement of creating a comparatively bigger chat room with some 20 odd members, we were caught off guard. It was not straightforward. It was not a simple chatting app; it required a lot of other features like announcement, confidential data sharing, medical information look up, etc. Hence, a lot of brainstorming was required on our part. We took it as a challenge and our team of PHP experts spent extra hours only to deliver the best of Chat Room solutions to them. Needless to say, we achieved it no time and provided them with the end product on time.

Real-time messaging

As per the client’s requirement, the app requires both one-to-one chat room and group chat room. Plus, maintaining privacy was of the utmost concern to them. Hence, user verification was to be the most tedious yet quick process. That seemed difficult to our team of cloud developers at first. Even our client was a little sceptical about adopting a cloud solution for this reason. However, we ensured that our delivered solution was foolproof. And was achieved with the help of CodeIgniter Platform.

We decided to rely on their team of developers. And, they didn’t let us down after the promised time of 4 months. We were quite impressed with the expertise they professed.”



Cloud platform:

Right from building them a logo to setting up the entire cloud-based Web App – we did all that their vision comprised. However, issues like managing multiple chat rooms, operating rooms, dashboards and a 2-way verification process cropped up every now and then. Our PHP experts and integration experts sat together and came up with the most effective development solution that would go with situations like this. After a detailed discussion with our client, we came to the conclusion that settling for Codeigniter hosting on cloud with PHP would be the right choice. We implemented the same within a span of 4 months.
